Our Commitment to You

Every patient and problem is unique

We work with our clients to customize care that fits your preference – because quality care can’t be rushed, and it must be tailored to each family’s needs. We enjoy meeting and working with our clients and treat each patient as an individual. We review each case, recommend thorough diagnostics, review suggestions for the best possible nutrition, and explore all options for treatment.

Whole Life Wellness Care

Whether fresh from their littermates, middle aged or senior citizens, each patient deserves to live their best life. We will thoroughly examine your best friend and provide suggestions for wellness care, nutrition and any treatments. If at any time you have additional concerns or are having trouble with the treatments prescribed, we encourage you to communicate with us directly so that we can work together to help your animal live a happy, healthy life.

Natural Options, When Possible

We do recommend thorough diagnostics, core vaccinations and necessary dental and medical care when appropriate. However, we don’t have corporate marketing and protocols that push unneeded chemicals and medications. Whenever possible, we will suggest gentle, natural options for wellness care, while respecting your preferences and your pet’s wellbeing.

Longer Appointments, Better Care

We believe quality time leads to quality care. That’s why we schedule 30-minute minimum appointments, giving us time to thoroughly examine your pet and discuss all your concerns. New clients, with a new patient that has no existing medical problems are scheduled for a 45 minutes. New clients and patients with a serious or chronic illness will be scheduled for 60-90 minutes, as a Holistic Intake appointment.

A Lifelong Calling to Heal

Dr Liz Hassinger has known since childhood that she wanted to become a veterinarian—a dream rooted in her passion for science, deep love for animals, and naturally empathic nature. After earning a degree in Animal Science from the University of Rhode Island, she went on to graduate from Tufts Veterinary School in 1989 and completed a post-graduate internship in small animal medicine and surgery at a busy emergency and referral hospital in Rochester, NY. Though well-trained in conventional medicine, Dr. Hassinger often found herself telling clients, “I’m sorry, there’s nothing more we can do.” Determined to offer more, she began exploring additional ways to support her patients’ health. Since 1995, she has pursued thousands of hours of advanced training in a wide range of alternative therapies, all while continuing her education in conventional care.

In 1997, as a single mother of two young children, she founded Wolf Rock Animal Health Center with a clear mission: to provide veterinary care grounded in what is truly best for each patient. Free from corporate influence, Wolf Rock is an independently owned veterinary hospital centered on gentle, effective, and holistic approaches. Since then, Dr. Hassinger has helped thousands of animals live longer, healthier lives, and has built lasting bonds with the clients who trust her care—many of whom have stayed with the clinic throughout generations of beloved pets.

Dr Liz

Founder & Veterinarian

Dr Hassinger founded Wolf Rock Animal Health Center in 1997, with a clear mission: to provide integrative veterinary care that blends the best of conventional and holistic medicine.

She has four decades of clinical experience and thousands of hours of advanced training in acupuncture, chiropractic care, herbal medicine, and more. She truly enjoys all of her clients and patients and especially the great staff members that she has been privileged to work with over the years. She is especially proud of the many former technical staff who have gone on to become veterinarians.

A devoted single mother, she raised two children who are now thriving adults, and she shares her small farm with a lively collection of animals—including horses, goats, cats, chickens, and a beloved dog. When she’s not at the clinic, she enjoys tending her herb and vegetable gardens, working on farm chores, horseback riding, hiking with her dog, scuba diving, kayaking, and traveling with friends and family.
